Dismantling Discrimination in Clinical Practice
Dr. Jacob Glickman, Psy.D., MA, LPC
Everyone is afraid of something, and often these fears shape how we treat other people who hold different identities from our own. Therapy can potentially be an ideal setting to work through some of these beliefs; however, a client's prejudice also has the potential to harm both the clinician and other members in group therapy settings. This workshop explore the underlying mechanisms of discrimination through the lens of Intergroup Threat Theory (ITT) and encourages participants to consider how they can work with clients voicing prejudiced viewpoints in session.
2 CE credits for Psychologists, Social Workers, Marriage & Family Therapists, & Professional Counselors
Learning Objectives:
Participants will apply Intergroup Threat Theory to enhance their current understanding of clients' prejudice.
